The LiveSure^TM Strep A Rapid Test is a two-site sandwich assay designed for the rapid detection of Group A Streptococcus antigen from throat swabs or culture plates.  Group A Streptococcus is a principal cause of respiratory infections such as tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and scarlet fever.  Since pharyngitis can lead to rheumatic fever or acute glomerulonephritis, it is important to distinguish between streptococcal pharyngitis and viral disease during early stages of infection.  The rapid detection of Group A Streptococcal antigen allows healthcare providers to administer therapy immediately.
