FOB

The LiveSureTM FOB Rapid Test utilizes two-site sandwich immunoassay technology and specific antibodies to human hemoglobin (hHB) to detect the presence of fecal occult blood in human feces.  Fecal occult blood (FOB), also known as stool occult blood and stool guaiac, is often the first and only warning sign for colorectal diseases.  While FOB rapid tests are used primarily to detect colorectal cancer, a relative level of hHB in feces is important in the accurate diagnosis and treatment of diseases that can cause bleeding anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract.  These diseases include gastritis, gastric ulcers, gastric carcinoma, esophagitis, esophageal varices, esophageal cancer, haiatal hernias, duodenal ulcer, duodenitis, intestinal polyps, diverticulosis, Mallory-Weiss tears, vascular ectasias, Chron’s disease, inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis), arteriovenous malformations and hemorrhoids.  In addition, excessive use of some drugs, such as aspirin or NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen) can irritate the gastrointestinal lining and cause bleeding.  The LiveSureTM FOB Rapid Test is designed to detect hHB in human fecal specimens at concentrations as low as 50ng/ml within 10 minutes.
